Buying a Used Car With a Trade-in 2007 Mustange GTMany people shopping for a vehicle have a trade in.  Usually their concerns are about what they are going to get for their old car (the one they don't want anymore!), rather than making sure the next one is what they want , at the right price. If you have a trade when shopping for your next vehicle, focus on the "NET DIFFERENCE".  This simply means the cost of doing business. Net Difference = Purchase price Less Trade value = Cost of doing business.

Trade values will vary from dealership to dealership.  Used car dealers in Winnipeg may offer more or less than those located elsewhere in Manitoba. The main reason for this is the price of the new purchase, whether it's a new or used car that you are interested in buying.  If the price of the vehicle you are considering is inflated, then your trade value will most likely be inflated. This is to make you feel you are getting a good deal. DON"T be fooled! Look at the "Net Difference"  from dealer to dealer, not the amount they have valued your trade. Your best deal will be the one with the smallest net difference, regardless of the value place on your trade.
Pricing a value on a used car, used truck or used suv IS NOT what the dealership feels it is worth – it's based on market value (what they have been selling for in auctions & on lots). This information is already available on the internet! So, take a little time to be informed.
